Méline Liu

Founder & CEO, The HumanWare Project

—

Gallello Atelier is delighted to introduce Méline Liu, Founder & CEO of The HumanWare Project and Editor-in-Chief of HUMANWARE, who reflects here on science, storytelling and the intelligence of feeling.

Taking its name from Bellini’s invocation to the moon goddess in Norma, the Casta Diva: Portraits in Taste and Temperament draws upon an image of femininity at once serene, restrained and quietly commanding. For the Atelier, it is a study of the woman — where softness, ambition and strength exist not in opposition, but in harmony.

On Curiosity

—

Méline is a founder and editor whose work brings together science, storytelling and culture. Through The HumanWare Project and HUMANWARE, she translates ideas about the future into something human, imaginative and accessible.

Her portrait reflects a femininity that is analytical and intuitive in equal measure — ambitious, emotionally open and guided by curiosity.

The Interview

01 - Anima & Animus

What happens to us when we spend years building something we deeply believe in - do we inevitably become someone new in the process?

—

It’s both. I have become someone new – I’ve overcome things I couldn’t have imagined
before HumanWare. But it feels less like becoming a different person and more like
Michelangelo and the marble: sculpting away everything that was never yours, until the person you were always meant to be is revealed.

Every day I learn something new about myself. I’m challenged and reinvented constantly, yet the core stays the same – the one I came into this life with.

02 - Longevity & Joy

How has founding HumanWare shaped the way you understand femininity and strength?

—

We all carry both masculine and feminine sides – Anima and Animus. There’s a masculine side to how I run HumanWare: focused targets and KPIs for every department (my team knows it’s one of my favourite words). But there’s a feminine side in what we make: a media company obsessed with quality, detail, storytelling and human-to-human connection.

As a female founder, I’m standing on the shoulders of giants. Virginia Woolf wrote that a woman needs £500 a year and a room of her own to create. I’m grateful every day for a freedom she didn’t have.

What has changed is that I no longer shy away from the feminine side. I hope I never grow too logical, or too guarded, to be moved to tears by the things I love. I used to think that was something to hide; now I see it as strength.

03 — Marble & Self

What is your vision for the future of HumanWare, and how do you hope it changes the way we think about longevity?

—

I see a future worth getting excited about, and HumanWare’s role is to bring the
technology of that future to people today – to make the most advanced science and
medtech accessible to those who need it, before it’s too late.

But longevity shouldn’t mean ultra-expensive treatments or a life given over to protocols. For HumanWare it means a joyful life on your own terms, in good health: prevention over reaction, loving yourself, enjoying your friends.

We’re obsessed with going straight to the source. As citizens of the world, we believe
wisdom knows no borders. From Nobel laureates’ laboratories to remote villages in Peru, we seek out the knowledge that empowers people to become the CEOs of their own health.

Life may be finite, but the possibilities of being alive are infinite. Longevity is about having the health and freedom to embrace them.

The quiet discipline of living beautifully.

A return to the 1950s couture atelier — an era when a woman had a couturier, a fitter, and a house that knew her; when couture was for life, not simply for occasion.

Gallello Atelier is devoted to the art of dress: building a wardrobe as a collection through individually commissioned pieces, conceived for one woman and made over time.

Crafted in noble materials and shaped through couture tailoring, each piece is intended to be kept, worn and returned to — valued for its craft, rarity and permanence.
